What do we need standards for?

Have you been asking yourself what are all the codes and standards good for? Is it a sign of globalization? Why unify the companies in the world to be alike? These standards are actually made to protect the consumers. Whether they be final consumers or just middle part in some production process. They signify a certain level of quality identical to those valid for the consumer. There are many standards to follow and they differ in the field of business that a company is involved in. E.g. Engineering Standards for engineering obviously or Automotive Standards for automobile industry. But also regional rules can be applied like the fore mentioned Automotive Standards are applicable in the United States similar may be valid in automobile industry in some other countries. In Europe there are general standards unifying countries under common quality in many different branches called European Standards. That is what we really need the standards for, to know that we are buying a quality product.
